Adoption and Fostering of Chrildren in Quebec: A Guide for Gays and Lesbians
This guide, a joint publication of the Lesbian Mothers Association, the Papa-Daddy Group and the LGBT Family Coalition, is of interest to future parents and those working with them. It includes a historical overview, definitions, information about the children, their biological parents and youth protection, legal information, an explanation of the adoption process, resources, as well as interviews with gay and lesbian parents who have adopted and/or fostered children. The guide, written in collaboration with the Association des centres jeunesse du Québec, is destined for lesbian and gay future adoptive and foster parents with a view to answering some of their questions and concerns. It will also be of use to social workers and psychologists working with gays and lesbians hoping to adopt—those who are already knocking on the door of youth protection agencies in Québec and those who will be doing so, more and more often, in the future.

Here’s some new documents in English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese developed for schools in Vancouver. Many gay and lesbian youth feel the need to hide who they really are because of fear their family will not be accepting. These booklets are dedicated to parents and family members who are dealing with their child’s coming out process, or preparing for the process. Teachers can use it also for a better understanding of the issue.

The objective of this kit, created by Productions la différence in New Brunswick, is to break the isolation and bring help to adolescents who are dealing with their sexual orientation. "I am who I am" also aims at developping a better awareness and promotes a better understanding of the reality of young homosexuals among their peers. It was developped as an educational tool for teachers and other school counsellors at the secondary level. The kit includes 3 promotional posters, 75 bookmarks for the students/clients, teachers/counsellors facilitator guide, handouts for students/clients, video or DVD documentary, CD-Rom for the Power Point presentation. This guide was created in response to a demand from lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) parents seeking advice on how best to communicate their sexual orientation and/or gender identity to their children. Most of these people expressed a common dilemma: wanting what is best for their children, valuing honesty as an important family value, and the same time fearing the worst from our all too often prejudiced society.
