-> Declaration of Montréal

The 1st World Outgames Rendez-Vous Montréal 2006 gave rise to the most significant International Conference on LGBT Community Human Rights held ever before, thereby contributing to the fight against homophobia.

From July 26 to 29, 2006, just before the opening of the 1st World Outgames, many conference speakers announced their vision to participants, who gathered into groups for workshops focusing on five themes: Inalienable Rights, World Issues, GLBT Community Diversity, Participation within Society, and Sparking Social Change.

A product of the International Conference, the “Declaration of Montréal” was presented to participants during the conference closing. The Declaration will be brought to United Nations leaders and to national governments in order to rally undeniable support for respecting LGBT rights.

President of Fondation Émergence Laurent McCutcheon as member of the Scientific Committee of the International Conference on LGBT Human Rights made sure that the Declaration of Montréal included recognising an International Day Against Homophobia annually on May 17. The Declaration of Montréal contains a recommendation to "call on all countries in the world, and on the United Nations, to recognise and promote the 17th of May of each year as the International Day against Homophobia".

Declaration of Montréal
‘All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights’. This famous first sentence of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted almost sixty years ago by the General Assembly of the United Nations, still contains in a nutshell our political agenda, as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, transitioned and intersexual persons.
